While watching the election coverage this evening I have been inspired to write a short post about something that I think is very important right now. A lesson that I strive to teach my children every day. A lesson that I think we all need to remember tomorrow.
That lesson is this: EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE, deserves respect and love. It doesn’t matter if they hold different political or religious views than you. It doesn’t matter if their skin is a different color. It doesn’t matter who they love or what language they speak. They are human beings and they deserve our respect and love just like you and I.
“Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy. That is not our business and, in fact, it is nobody’s business. What we are asked to do is to love, and this love itself will render both ourselves and our neighbors worthy.”
Keeping this in mind will allow us to not only act with more compassion and empathy but also speak with a kinder voice and see things from different points of view. These are all things that I hope with all of my heart that I can teach to my children.
